Veterans Day

(This is a day late in publishing, but I wrote it yesterday.)

Veterans day, to some, may just be another holiday.  Another "small print holiday" on the calendar, like boxing day, or Chinese New Year.  Of course, most would probably hold this holiday more of a celebration than the others, but how many of us truly understand what Veterans Day means?

American soldiers, and every other soldier, no matter what country they are from, has given up something.  Not only time and energy, but many their lives.  No only limbs and injuries, lose of hearing or seeing, but also mentally.  What those men and women have seen, experienced and had to do is far beyond comprehension.  We should celebrate Veterans Day, to honor those who gave so much for our freedom.

My grandfather is a Vietnam veteran.  This fact is particularly close to my heart because of the fact that this war, though recent, has been almost forgotten, and was certainly in it's time scorned.  It was at the stage where the want for world peace was spreading throughout Americans, particularly the youth.  Many of our soldiers, returning home, found that they were scorned and even hated because of their service, as if they wanted to go out and kill.  Most were drafted in, and had no other choice, and yet when they should have been received with open arms and welcomed home to recover, they were rejected and despised.  My grandfather joined right before they sent out drafts; he did this because he knew that being drafted was coming and he wanted to be able to choose on as many options that he could.  Of the unit that he was sent to Vietnam with, he was the only one to return to the United States alive.  This breaks my heart to think of his friends and comrades that he would have made, being so close to them, and to lose every single one of them.  My grandfather also lost his hearing because of all the explosions, shots and cannons going off around him, and not having access to the right protection.  My grandfather gave, not only his hearing and youth, and risked his life, but also his peace of mind.  My grandmother has told me that he still, even to this day, will have terrible nightmares of things that he saw and did.  I cannot imagine being given a gun and told to shoot oncoming men.  The thought devastates me.

There is a neighbor that we have talked to that is also a Vietnam veteran, although he never actually went to Vietnam.  He said that he only went to a training camp in Europe, but the war ended before he ever got to Vietnam.  Despite this, he still served his country.  He says that, as a 19 year old farm boy who had never been more then a hour away from home, who had never been on a train, plane or bus, that when he experienced all 4 of those things and went across the ocean with the intent to go to Vietnam, that he felt like a scared little boy, overwhelmed, and just wanting to go home.

So as we celebrate Veterans Day, let us not get caught up and lost in the celebration of it.  We need to stop and think about what each of these soldiers personally gave up to bring freedom to our country, and to us.  Take time to pray for these soldiers that, if they do not know the LORD, that they would be saved, pray for their peace of mind and that the nightmares that plague them would subside.  Pray also for the family members who have also suffered, those who have lost family members on duty, and those who, though many years have past, still think about and mourn for them.  And may we remember, that just as freedom in our country is not free, our spiritual freedom is not free either.  Christ fought and won the spiritual battle, and we need to repent of our sins and turn to him, so that we too can share in His victory, just as we share in the victory of those who have served and are still serving.

Below is a link to a video by Twila Paris that touches of the connection between spiritual and physical battles and veterans.  Please watch it, it is well worth your time and hopefully it will give you something to think about.

Also, take time to thank a veteran, not just on Veterans Day, but everyday!  Take time to write a short, handwritten note or letter, and make sure that these men and women know that you care.  You can find online address to send letter and cards to soldiers currently serving, and there are organizations that take old phones and donations to send them to soldiers so that they can call home.  Today, at a restaurant, I saw a girl, about 13 or so, handing out short, handwritten notes to the men and women that had "I Served" stickers on (They gave them to the veterans at the door) just telling them thank you for serving.  That is a really neat idea, I think.  I even heard of a lady who sent Halloween candy to the soldiers, rather then passing it out to trick-or-treaters.  These are all good ideas, and even if you don't do any of these big projects, even just telling someone that you knew served, or had a close relative serve, thank you will mean a lot.  And it is the least that we can do.

If you are reading this and a close family member of your either has served, is serving, or had died in the fight, I thank them, and you, from the deepest part of my heart.  May the LORD be with you and your whole family.

Thank you, and in Christ,

Jessica Joy

This has been one of my favorite quotes for a long time.
Both true and funny!

Including an unborn baby in the womb,
No matter what "stage" of being in the womb it is! <3

My mom like to say that she is a bear of very little brain! <3

Youer Than You!  (Ha!) =D

I just found this quote and I LOVE it!

This is one of those thought-provoking ones.

I hope that you enjoyed these as much as I did.

Random Things About Me!!

Hiya!!  This is another post where you can learn more about me. Enjoy!

   1.  I Love Ballet
I took ballet for about 5 years, and 1 of those years was on pointe.  I love all ballet.  It is beautiful and graceful.  It is amazing.

   2.  I Don't Use Milk In My Cereal
I have never really liked milk, and to me, milk in my cereal just makes it soggy.

   3.  I Never Wear PJ Tops
I told you this was going to be random!  I always wear t-shirts, unless it is SUPER cold, and then I might wear a long sleeved pj top.

   4.  I Make (I Don't Mean To Brag) Some of the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies
My brother's best friend says that they are the best cookies ever.  I changed the recipe a little bit and it is actually healthier: less butter, less sugar, and healthier flour.  Maybe I will post the recipe sometime. ;)

    5.  I Love Lasagna
Every year for our birthday we get to chose where to go out to eat (We go out maybe twice a month, so it isn't that big of a deal) and for the last six years or so I have chose to have spinach lasagna at home.  Yum!!

    6.  I Love Beauty and the Beast
I have to say that it is my favorite movie.   Especially the dancing scene and the song Beauty and the Beast.  That is my movie.  <3 <3  Plus Belle loves to read and lives on a farm like me.

    7.  I Like Decorating Cupcakes
My mom used to cake decorate, so she has a whole bunch of "old" equipment, and I like playing around with it.  The only problem is keeping the cupcakes from being eaten while I make the frosting!

    8.  I am a People Person
I can talk to anyone, and making friends is really easy for me.  I am also have the ability to remain calm in tough situations, and to be able to evaluate what needs to happen and to go through with it.

    9.  My Cell Phone is a Hand-Me-Down From My Grandma
Yeah...It is touch screen, granted, but it is almost worst being a touch screen then having a 4-button control.  And when I get a call, it "shuts off" or the screen goes black, but it keeps ringing, and it won't turn back on.  So if I'm in a meeting or the library and I forget to turn it down, it will go black and then I am sitting there with it ringing.  But one time at home I just pretended to throw it, and it came on!  So now, whenever I get a call, I shake it like I'm throwing it and then I answer it. =D  Haha!

   10.  I Can't Stand Turtle Neck Shirts
I just can't stand them being on my neck.  I have tried, but I just can't wear them.

   11.  I Don't Wear Makeup
I own some because a friend gave some to me for my birthday, but I don't really know how to apply it, because my mom doesn't wear it, and I don't think I really need it.  So, when I leave the house, all I have to worry about is my hair.

   12.  I Have a "Special Blanket"
I know it sounds weird, but I do.  There is a full size comforter that I got for Christmas one year and I LOVE it!  In the summer it is cool and breathes, but in the winter it keeps the heat in and is warm, but it never makes you stuffy, which is really cool because I can snuggle up even in the summer and still be cold.

That is all for now!  I would think of more, but I have to go to bed!

Good Night, Lovelies!

NaNoWriMo, Subway, 1 Girl Nation and Skittles

Hopefully that title confused you at least a little bit, because then you will keep reading!  If that title did not confuses you, either you are a good friend of mine and I already told you, or we need to get together, because we have cool things in common! =)

I am currently sitting in a study room in the library typing on my NaNoWriMo book.  It ws supposed to be a Write-In, which means that you just come and write, write, write!  The only problem is, I'm the only one!  LOL So I am hogging all the candy!  Haha!  =)  I almost have Day 4 completed!!! (which means that I should have 6668 words and I have 5756.)

Subway is awesome!!  I love their sandwiches!!  Lunch was included with the Write In, and because I am the only one I got a whole foot long to myself!  I felt so bad!  Haha!

1 Girl Nation is this new Christian girl band that is really awesome!!  I have listened to them almost all day!  There songs are hip and have very good lyrics!  Better then a lot of other Christina music were it's like, "Hm, they could be talking about a boyfriend, or about Jesus."  They are NOT like that.  =)

And of couse, Skittles are part of the "hogging all the candy."  Starburst may also be included in there.  =)

Well, I better get back to writing.  Hopefully we will be going to the YMCA tonight, so you should hear an update about that!

Toddles!

  28. Land to run and play on

Wow, I did it! =)  It is so neat to get your brain thinking and to look closely at all the things around you to be thankful for!  And, um...need we mention NaNoWriMo?  Um, lets just say that we should imagine that I am further ahead then I am.  Say, let us imagine that I am NOT still working on finishing the work for the 3rd day... *sigh* Depressing, I know.  My NaNo stats say that, at this rate, I will finish on January 12.  Not good when I am trying to finish two months before then!  Agh....oh, well.  I'm going for quality, not quantity.

My family rejoined the YMCA, and so tonight we went for the first time.  Last time we were a part of the Y, I wasn't old enough to be in the gym room.  Now I am!  Haha!! =D  I worked out on the bike, and watched tv.  You know, it is sad when the commercials are so long, that I forget what I am watching!  Then my mom found this machine that was like an escalator!  It was about 1 1/2 feet wide, and very tall!  I didn't go on it, but I think I will next time!  My sister stayed in the game room with my little brother, because he is not old enough for the gym yet.  I played a little bit of ping pong.  I'm a little rusty, but I'll get it back!  =)

Well, it is my bedtime because I have a very busy day tomorrow!  I will post more later! Adios!  =)

Good night, Lovelies!

Hiya!

Here is the updates about my November challenges/contests.  Enjoy! =)

NaNoWriMo:  Well, I'm *cough* about a day and a half behind *cough cough*  But rather then writing for quantity, I am writing for quality.  So, even if I don't finish it by the end of November, I have still started a book that I have wanted to write for a long time.  If you want to see the information about my book you can go to:   http://nanowrimo.org/participants/dogs4jj/novels/lacy-s-peace.  I have 2806 words done. =)

Start of My Two November Challenges!!

Hi!

This will be really quick because it is 10:37 exactly, and that is very late, because I have to get up at 5 tomorrow, because my mom and sister are leaving.  Hopefully, I will be able to go back to sleep for a little bit, but I still want to get up and wish them off.  Anywho, no time to talk!  Here is a update about my challenges:

NaNoWriMo:  This will be very, very hard to do because my computer is broken!  I'm using my mom's right now, and that is what I have started typing on, but I probably won't get to 50,000 words.  But I am going to try anyway, and it is a story that I have wanted to write for at least 3 years, so it will be good to at least get a decent chuck of it done.  Now, I am supposed to do about 1,666 words a day and I only got 1,297....So, yeah.  I will try to catch up tomorrow.  And I am pleased with how the part that I got done turned out.  =)  I face tomorrow with a smile!

Count Your Blessings:  I thought about this today, but I never actually constructed a list, but I am going to write down 7 things anyway.  Here they are:

   I'm Thankful For:

1.) Safety while traveling by car
    2.) A mom that forgives
3.) A dad that takes me to football games (Go Indians!) ;) =P
4.) A warm bed to snuggle up in
5.) Grandparents that love and visit us
    6.) Being homeschooled
7.) A LORD and Savior that listens to us (me.)

Well, that's seven!  And I need to go to bed!!  Bye! =)

In Christ,
   Jessica Joy

ps.  If anyone has blog title suggestions, let me know!  I am terrible at those things. And if you like the one right now, you can tell me that too! =)  XOXO <3
